How to Help Your Loved Ones

Sometimes it can be difficult for caregivers to know how to help their loved ones. This list may give you ideas of ways to be supportive. Being a caregiver can be hard, and so this list may also be helpful to you, should you need support from your own network.

  • Cooking meals or baking
  • Offering to drive to appointments
  • Assisting with groceries or other shopping
  • Helping with household chores (e.g. cleaning, vacuuming, laundry, filing)
  • Assisting with shovelling snow, raking leaves, gardening or fixing things around the house
  • Assisting with elderly parents, kids, or other family obligations
  • Helping plan and host a family event (e.g. birthday party)
  • Providing company at home or on short outings
  • Spending time together and be a listening ear
  • Sending a card to let them know you’re thinking of them
  • Gathering or organizing information about CLL
  • Acting as communication “liaison” with family/friend/work circles
